SCHOOL NEWS: Children hold their own Carnival

TALENTED Bridgwater children did their own Carnival parade in front of proud parents, carers and school staff.

Pupils at Northgate Primary School paraded round their wonderful £6-million school after weeks of making carnival carts.

Drake Class took part in a lantern making workshop as part of the Bridgwater Carnival celebrations. They spent a day learning about how willow is grown and how to weave it into lanterns. The pupils then added lights and covered the frames in preparation for the Lantern Parade.

Some 12 pupils and two members of staff joined other primary schools from the local area to walk through Bridgwater displaying their lanterns.

And Northgate's Carnival Club decorated a giant space-theme mask for part of the Bridgwater Carnival display.

Northgate Primary School is run by the innovative Clevedon Learning Trust (CLT).

Headteacher Katie Penny, said: “Our pupils had great fun preparing for the main carnival displays and their own carnival. There was creativity, designs and inspiration in abundance.”
