BRIDGWATER NEWS: Official switching-on of Bridgwater Town Bridge lights
THE fantastic lights on Bridgwater Town Bridge will be ‘officially’ switched-on during the festivities to start the countdown to Christmas on Friday (November 23, 2018).
The official switch-on of the bridge lights comes after a period of commissioning to test the lights.
The bridge ceremony will take place during the switching-on of the Christmas lights event – entitled Snowflakes – where a special design will be illuminated at 6.45pm on East Quay on the north-east corner of the bridge.
There are 25 plus lighting designs and the lights come on automatically at about ten minutes before sunset each night and there are bespoke designs for each season and for special occasions, including carnival, Christmas and New Year.
The lighting of the town bridge is one project in the Bridgwater Town Centre Support Scheme, which is funded from EDF Energy’s Community Impact Mitigation Fund monies through the bid on behalf of Bridgwater Town Council, Sedgemoor District Council and Bridgwater Town Team.
The lights are owned and will be maintained by Bridgwater Town Council. The lighting project was also supported by the Environment Agency and Somerset County Council.
The Snowflakes event is a packed afternoon of events and entertainment, including extended shopping hours and street food stalls, the Christmas lights will be switched on at 6pm.
There will also be a fabulous display of Carnival squibbing at 7pm.
