LEISURE: Apple Day at the Meads Eco Park
PEOPLE are being invited along to a special Apple Day at the Meads Eco Park in Bridgwater on Sunday (October 21, 2018) where they will be able to find out more about the favourite fruit.
The event, which is open to all and no booking required, starts in the car park at Westfield Church, West Street, Bridgwater at 2pm.
People have been told to make sure they have suitable footwear and clothing as it might get quite cold!
An event spokesman said: “We will be crushing and pressing apples to make some delicious apple juice as well as discussing fruit-drying and other preservation techniques followed by a walk to the Eco Park to look at our ‘community orchard’, demonstrating apple-tree management and learning about the benefits of apple trees for wildlife.
“Apples are of course one of your five-a-day and what better source than to pick straight from the tree?”
The spokesman added: “If you know of a school or community group that wants to promote lifestyle changes through targeted projects, you can apply to Sedgemoor District Council’s community health fund, which is available to contribute towards the cost of projects, such as purchasing suitable fruit trees.”
