BRIDGWATER NEWS: Bringing the Mayoralty into the 21st century - going live on Facebook!
BRIDGWATER Mayor, Cllr Diogo Rodrigues, is launching the latest in a series of new initiatives to bring the Mayoralty into the 21st century when he starts his ‘Mayor Goes Live’ show on Sunday (August 5, 2018) on social networking Facebook.
People can tune in, see him live from Bridgwater Town Hall and ask him questions about anything at all from Town Council policy to the Labour Party to anything that’s on their mind.
Cllr Rodrigues plans to hold the Mayor Live events a couple of times a month and wants them to be informal and as casual as possible so as to not put people off.
His intention is to always have a special guest. For his first show the guest will be Cllr Brian Smedley, leader of Bridgwater Town Council.
Future guests will come from all across the community spectrum.
To follow Cllr Rodrigues click on his Mayor’s Facebook site. On the day it will be live and you can send your questions in on Sunday (August 5) from 4pm to 4.45pm.
Cllr Rodrigues is Bridgwater’s youngest ever Mayor at 28 and the first Portuguese born Mayor in the UK. His energy and enthusiasm have reflected well on the town as has his determination to attend as many functions as possible. He is currently working hard to launch the new Bridgwater Youth Council in September.
“What I’m trying to do is bring the role of the Mayor into the 21st century,” said Cllr Rodrigues. “So many people use social media as a way of communication and it just makes sense to reach out to people in our community in this way.
“It also allows us to reach those that perhaps wouldn’t be able to attend a council meeting for mobility reasons, or people that wouldn’t be interested otherwise.”
