BRIDGWATER NEWS: Barbara’s birthday bash supports St Margaret’s Hospice
BIG-HEARTED Barbara Browne didn’t want any presents for her 65th birthday – instead she asked people to donate money to St Margaret’s Hospice.
And her birthday bash at Bridgwater & Albion Rugby Club was such a great success that she raised an amazing £1,533.
Barbara and her late husband Kevin, who died in December 2016, are well known in Bridgwater’s theatre and music scene.
Their son James and many talented friends including the Somerset Songbirds performed at the party in February, with the evening’s entertainment compered by Alan King.
Barbara is already planning another big party to mark their 40th wedding anniversary next year.
She said: “I was so proud to do it for Kevin, and people were so generous. About 130 people came along and when I walked in it was wonderful to see everybody there. Bridgwater is like a big village.”
Barbara and her friend Lisa Pearce visited St Margaret’s Hospice in Taunton to hand over the cheque to assistant fundraiser Kara Frampton and community fundraiser Terena Young.
Kara said: “It was a brilliant party and we’re so grateful that Barbara chose to use her special birthday to raise funds to help St. Margaret’s Hospice care for more people in Somerset.”
