SCHOOL NEWS: Congratulations to Haygrove’s Fab 50 Duke of Edinburgh Award students
FIFTY students at Haygrove School in Bridgwater have proudly received their bronze Duke of Edinburgh Awards following months of dedication and hard work.
A ceremony took place in the school hall where each student received their award having completed a series of multiple challenges including volunteer work, learning a new skill and taking part in an expedition.
Haygrove’s head of outdoor education, Cath Clark, said: “The award can be challenging to all students. Some may find learning a new skill difficult whereas others might not be used to the physical aspect of the programme.
“As well as an excellent addition to their CVs, the award allows young people the opportunity to try new things and thrive where they may not have thought they could.”
The audience were also treated to a violin performance from talented student and Duke of Edinburgh Award achiever Patrick Lockyer and a motivational speech from ex-student Laura Gallagher, who is now the 2017 British trampoline champion and World and European trampolining medallist.
Presented by Head of Year 10, Becky Mitchell, Cath Clark, Laura and special guest Marjorie Rigby, head of the Marjorie Rigby DofE Bursary, students accepted their certificates and badges as proud parents applauded to celebrate their brilliant success.
