SEDGEMOOR NEWS: Woman and two children rescued from mud
A WOMAN and two children had to be rescued on Thursday (February 15, 2018) afternoon after getting stuck in mud on the beach at Burnham-on-Sea.
Firefighters from Burnham and Bridgwater along with a specialist rescue team from Chippenham worked with the Coastguard after the alarm was raised at just after 1pm.
“We found one female and two children stuck within the mud and got to work assist the Coastguard in rescuing them,” said a spokesman for the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service. “They were rescued and placed in safe hands.”
A spokesman for the Burnham Coastguard Rescue Team, speaking on social media, said: “Although they weren’t far off the hard standing they had managed to find some very sticky mud which had reached the top of their wellie boots.
“This was a fantastic example of multi-agency work and the true bond that exists between all the emergency services.
“If you see anyone in difficulty along the coast – dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
