POLICE have announced they have launched a murder investigation following the death of a woman in Highbridge in the early hours of Saturday (January 20, 2018) morning.
The incident happened at about 2.20am when a woman died as a result of a fail to stop incident – commonly known as a hit and run – on Burnham Road.
One man, 34, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and helping police with their investigations.
But now police have described it as a “murder investigation.”
“We’ve launched a murder investigation after the death of a woman in Highbridge,” said a police spokesman on social networking Twitter.
“If you were in Burnham Road at about 2.20am yesterday morning – please call us on 101.”
The reference number for the incident is 5218014348.
The woman in her 30s, who has not yet been formally identified, died from what is believed to have been a head injury.
Her body was found in the road by a member of the public who alerted the police.
“We’re keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident,” said a police spokesman.
“We would particularly like to hear from the drivers of any cars with dashcams which may have driven along Burnham Road around the time of the incident.”
