SOMERSET NEWS: Seven people, including a baby, get trapped in water
SEVEN people, including a one-year-old baby, had to be helped to safety after the vehicle they were in got trapped in water.
The alarm was raised at just before 8pm to the problem at the aptly-named Watery Lane near to the village of Stawley, not far from Wellington.
Two fire engines from Wellington were mobilised following a call from the driver of the vehicle that they had driven into a ford and had got stuck.
Inside the vehicle was one adult, five 16-year-olds and a baby.
“We stayed on the phone to them for some time after mobilising our resources in order to pinpoint exactly where the car was, to give safety advice and ensure that the occupants were ok,” said a spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.
Once the emergency services arrived at the scene the seven occupants of the vehicle were safely carried to dry land.
“Duty of care for the vehicle was then left in the hands of the owner, awaiting recovery,” added the Fire Service spokesman.
