BRIDGWATER NEWS: Running in the rain
WET weather failed to dampen the enthusiasm of runners on Sunday (September 3, 2017) in the Bridgwater Half Marathon in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Runners of all ages gathered at Morganians Rugby Club on the edge of town for the half marathon and smaller 10k and 5k runs.
The weather was very wet, but that did not put off the runners once they were out on the course.
There were a total of 512 runners with 291 lining-up for the half marathon, 160 for the 10k and 61 for the 5k.
James Rogers came home first in the half marathon in a time of 1-11-57 while the first lady finisher was Alice Murray-Gourlay in 1-24-57.
Winner of the 10k was Ben Tull in 34-52 while the 5k winner was Matthew Brewer in 19-27.
Runners came from as far afield as North Carolina in the United States, while the youngest runner was Noah Derrick, of Cotford St Luke, in the 5k and the old was Mick Allen, of Sidmouth, in the half marathon.
The route was marshalled by members of the Bridgwater-based Ramblers Carnival Club and supporters of Cancer Research UK.
Volunteer official photographers on the day were members of the Sedgemoor Camera Club which is based in Bridgwater.
More than £3,500 was raised for Cancer Research UK from the event which was sponsored by Kellands Plant Sales & The Laundry Room.
