BRIDGWATER NEWS: Radio marathon to support Freddy’s Fight for Life Appeal

LOCAL radio presenter Dave Englefield completed an amazing 27-hour marathon to help raise money to send a Sedgemoor lad to the United States for a life-saving operation.

Freddy Vallender, four, has a very rare and life-threatening heart condition and needs some specialist treatment to remove a cardiac tumour from his left ventricle.

Unfortunately, such treatment is hard to come by in the UK and Freddy’s family are trying to raise £90,000 to take him across the Atlantic to the United States and to Boston Children’s Hospital in Massachusetts for an operation that will change his life forever.

Local radio station Sedgemoor FM wanted to something to help young Freddy, who lives near Bridgwater, get to Bston and return to living life like any other cheeky four-year-old.

So it was decided to run a live 27-hour radio marathon, hosted by Dave Englefield, with plenty of ridiculous games, special guests, live performances and a 12-hour Dance-a-Thon.

The marathon took place from 6am on Friday, September 1, 2017, through to 10am on Saturday, September 2, 2017.
