SEDGEMOOR NEWS: Nathan is sailing the Atlantic
BURNHAM lifeboat crew member Nathan Meager is to sail the Atlantic in a tall ship as part of the Rona Sailing Project.
Nathan has volunteered with the project for 17 years and takes children and young people from all backgrounds and abilities from across the UK and Ireland.
Sail training and the Tall ships normally race every year around Europe and the UK but every 8-10 years the fleet goes transatlantic!
Nathan was selected for the leg from Halifax in Canada to Le Havre in France as well as being given responsibility for organising all the food and logistics for a 154-day adventure for 23 people across numerous countries and over six legs.
Nathan said: “Being part of this event has been a voluntary project that has been part of my life for over two years involving various fundraising and sponsorship activities and would not have been possible without the help and assistance of many people.
“This is a huge endeavour for everyone involved and is likely to involve some pretty strong winds and rough seas over many weeks in order to cross the Atlantic!
Burnham RNLI operations manager Matt Davies said: “We at the station are all extremely proud of what Nathan has undertaken and wish him all the best for his trip and a safe return!”
