BRIDGWATER NEWS: 20 homes planned for Black Horse pub site
TWENTY new homes are being earmarked to be built on land where the former Black Horse pub once stood in Bridgwater.
Proposals for the housing development in Rhode Lane – being spearheaded by Knighstone Housing Association - have been submitted to Sedgemoor District Council.
The planned new accommodation on the Hamp estate comprises 16 rented two-bedroom homes and four rented three-bedroom homes.
The applicants have indicated that the 20 homes should be able to cater for up to 84 people and help meet an “affordable housing” need in the Bridgwater area.
A report from the applicants has indicated that the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station project will see the influx of “significant numbers of well-paid construction workers looking for accommodation in the Bridgwater area.”
“This scheme is therefore crucial to the town and its population seeking a home,” said a spokesman. “The scheme will provide high quality well managed rented homes, directly responding to existing and anticipated future demand.”
The Black Horse pub was closed back on September 27, 2013, following a difficult time in which had been blighted by a history of drug-related incidents and anti-social behaviour. It was later demolished the following year.
Quattro Design Architects have been appointed by E. G. Carter and Co Ltd to design the proposed 20-home residential development on the site of the former Black Horse pub.
The proposed homes will be two-storey.
