BRIDGWATER AREA NEWS: More hotel bedrooms planned for Holiday Inn Express
BOSSES are planning on putting in an extra 18 bedrooms on a planned new Holiday Inn Express hotel on the outskirts of Bridgwater.
Zeal Hotel Ltd has already been given planning approval by Sedgemoor District Council to build a 120-bedroom complex at the Regional Rural Business Centre at Market Way in North Petherton.
The applicants were then given permission by the council to add an extra eight bedrooms into the original plans.
But now the applicants have gone back to the council again asking for approval to further tweak the plans by adding in more extra accommodation facilities.
Richard Musker, senior architect for Aros Architects Ltd, has told the council that the original plans which were given the green light in 2015 had been looked at in detail by the developers and a re-arrangement of the planned ground floor has made it possible to include an extra six guestrooms, while more bedrooms could also be included in the accommodation floors of the five-storey development.
“As a result of these proposed amendments the hotel would then function as a 138-guestroom hotel subject to approval,” he said.
Mr Musker has added that the façade of the building would not be altered.
Hotel bosses have previously said that they hope the new complex will be open in the Spring of 2018.
