FOOTBALL: New management duo announced at Bridgwater Town FC
BRIDGWATER Town FC has announced the appointment of Karl Baggaley and Dave Pearse as the club’s new joint management team.
Baggaley joins Bridgwater from Barnstaple Town FC where he has held a similar role with Barry Yeo since 2014.
During that time they delivered the Western League Division One title in season 2014-15 and then promotion from the Western League Premier Division the following season as runners-up.
They have comfortably secured their status in the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South & West for next season.
Prior to that Baggaley led Ilfracombe Town to two third-place finishes in the Premier Division of the Western League and victory in the Les Phillips League Cup.
His extensive playing career includes spells at Weston-super-Mare, Backwell United, Torrington, Ilfracombe Town, Street and Barnstaple.
Pearse returned to Bridgwater Town as a player earlier this season having played for the club in season 2011-12 when he was leading goal scorer and both Manager’s and Supporters’ Player of the Year.
His extensive playing experience includes seasons at Odd Down, Street, Welton Rovers, Bideford, Tiverton Town, and most recently, Barnstaple Town where, in 106 games, he scored 55 goals and played a key role in that club’s back-to-back promotions from Western League Division One to Southern League, South West Division One.
The new management duo of Pearse and Baggaley will be looking to steady the Bridgwater ship and rebuild following the club’s relegation to the Western League from Southern League after a difficult and hugely disappointing 2016-17 season.
A Bridgwater Town spokesman said: “Since being handed the “interim” manager role, Dave has worked hard to improve both team morale and style of play with some success.
“We believe that the duo have the required experience, knowledge and contacts to make us successful in our attempt to establish the club as a force both on and off the pitch and bring further stability to Bridgwater Town FC.
“Likewise, both Karl and Dave are excited by the challenge of working with the club, players, sponsors and fans to ultimately gain promotion from the Western League once more.”
